For a subset of our users, when a document is opened in the NextGen Online reader random parts of characters in the text are not fully rendered or appear malformed.

For example:

The issue is a known issue in Chromium based browsers with hardware acceleration activated.

Chromium based web browsers include these popular web browsers:

  • Google Chrome

  • Microsoft Edge

  • Brave

SOLUTION: Disable Hardware Acceleration for Web Browser

Open up your browser Settings from the menu, and select System. And then DISABLE the "Use hardware acceleration when available" setting.

SOLUTION: Re-render the view in the online reader

If you are unable or unwilling to disable Hardware Acceleration in the browser you can correct the issue when it appears by forcing the book view to refresh. The simplest approach is to adjust the current Zoom Level of the book up and down until the text characters become fully formed again.
